Abstract:

Academic Advising as Yogic Practice
Finding A Path for Self-Renewal, Transformation, and Integration
We advise as who we are; and we learn and grow as we advise. Is it possible then to change academic advising into yogic practice that becomes a path for self-renewal, transformation, and integration? Our session will start with classical yoga including Asana, Pranayama, and Samyama (combining Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi) to explore deep the dimensions of ourselves, followed by introducing mandala and I-Ching hexagrams as tools for inner mapping. Through advising examples, we will learn to apply yogic practice and inner mapping to our experiences as professionals with multiple identities. We will conclude with identifying ways to increase awareness of our functional patterns so that we can make changes as needed to renew our energy, transform consciousness, and integrate our being. |
