Abstract:
|
This phenomenological study explores the experiences of primary-role advisors in higher education who identify as women and feminists, examining how feminism influences their advising practice. Despite the dominance of womxn in academic advising roles, their lived experiences and the impact of feminism on their professional practice remain underexplored. Utilizing feminist phenomenology, this research aims to understand the intersection of gender, feminism, and academic advising. Through interviews with advisors at large institutions, the study delves into their personal and professional journeys, revealing how their feminist identities shape their advising methodologies. Initial findings highlight the complexity of navigating advising within a gendered workplace and the strategic ways these womxn integrate feminist principles into their advising practice. This research offers insights into the role of feminism in shaping academic advising and its potential to influence higher education practices.
