Abstract:
|
With the recent implementation of Texas Senate Bill 17, higher educational institutions across Texas have had to disband all offices of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, as well as eradicate multicultural programs and trainings. With several other states already making significant moves to follow in Texas's footsteps, advisors now more than ever need to be culturally competent and mindful on how they advise multicultural students.
Advisors strive to uphold the core values of NACADA, including providing inclusive and multicultural advising for our diverse students. But how can we do so when our resources are being stripped away from us at the state level? This presentation will explore inclusive advising strategies that some advisors within a DEI banned state have been utilizing in order to still support their diverse students while remaining compliant inside of the law. |
