Abstract:
|
First-year undergraduate students face challenges with transitioning to college as they navigate new people, environments, and social and academic dynamics. While academic advisors are essential members of a student's support network, they are not the only ones.
Innovative strategies to enhance student support networks that offer scaffolding for students to identify, define, execute and achieve academic, personal and professional goals are crucial in building belonging, improving retention, and strengthening independence and resilience.
This presentation will focus on a Success Coach graduate assistantship at a small urban liberal arts University, the role's impact on undergraduate students during their transition to college, the implications for growth and development of the graduate students engaged in this role, and its relationship to advising.
Audience participation will occur through activities used by Success Coaches to build relationships with students. |
