Title: "I Know I'm Not Your Mother, But Make Good Choices": How Our Identities Shape Our Advocacy Efforts
Lead Presenter: Amanda Armstrong
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Room: 201/202, DECC
Abstract: Do you consider yourself an advocate? Have you ever thought about the diverse ways that advocacy might present itself in your work? As NACADA increases its diversity and inclusion efforts at the association level, it is crucial that we (advisors) examine how our own identities and critical awareness play a role in our advocacy efforts with and for students. Advisors from various institutional types and years of experience are invited to this session for an opportunity to reflect upon their understandings of advocacy and to share at least one idea for action moving forward. To further inform our conversation, I will share preliminary findings from a NACADA-funded qualitative research study involving 10 academic advisors.
