Abstract:

Complete Title - Relationship-Rich Academic Advising: Cultivating Spaces of Inclusion and Belonging
Peter Felton and Leo Lambert's publication Relationship Rich Education explores the impacts that human connections have on student success. The authors elevated a concept that academic advisors are well familiar with: relationships matter, and are the key to a transformative college experience. This session applies the guiding principles of a relationship rich education to the field of academic advising. Advisors will connect Felton and Lambert's work to established academic advising philosophies, to include Appreciative Advising 'Bloom, et. al., 2008', Culturally Responsive Advising 'Bowes, 2017', Hope Theory 'Snyder, 2003', Cultural Navigation 'Strayhorn, 2015', and Powerful Questions 'van Nieuwerburgh, 2013' As a result of this session, advisors will identify tangible strategies for incorporating the principles of Relationship Rich Education into their everyday practices. |
