Abstract:
|
Two challenges often face academic units: upperclassmen engagement and first year retention rates. To address these two issues, The Auburn University Honors College implemented the Peer Instructor program. This program aims to create an interactive first-year experience through peer-to-peer learning while simultaneously equipping upperclassmen students with opportunity to develop NACE career competencies. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the peer instructor program, discuss how Auburn uses it to create academic touchpoints with students, and identify ways this high impact practice (HIP) is influencing students through qualitative and quantitative data. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how this program enables advisors to operate in a learning-centered advising model. |
