Abstract: But Does It Work? Enhancing Participation and Assessing Effectiveness of Early Intervention Efforts

Many institutions adopt early alert systems in order to identify and intervene with students most at-risk of attrition and share that information with advisors and support staff. Although adoption of these systems is widespread, challenges remain in enhancing faculty participation and assessing early intervention effectiveness. We will share collaborative institutional practices that lead to 90% average faculty participation and study results regarding the effectiveness of intervention in predicting and supporting retention. Participants will reflect on their own institutional early intervention practices, opportunities, and implications for advising and student success practices.
