Abstract:

Using Data to Drive Student Academic Decisions
What is a realistic grade improvement for a student with a midterm deficiency in any particular course? How often do first-year students on academic probation get accepted into graduate school? In order to best advise current students, advisors must collect, refine, and leverage historical student data and outcomes to inform their advisees on the best course of action. This session will focus on what information is easily obtainable for advisors to collect to enrich the conversations with students surrounding several topics including academic difficulty, major changes, and post-grad opportunities. Attendees will leave this session with a framework for how to collect the data they need and strategies on how to present the data given each student's individual circumstances and attributes. |
