Abstract: 'Who Am I?': Identity Development as a Success Strategy for Vulnerable Students

Students entering college are at a transitional crossroads that often fosters their first venture into independent self-exploration. Although this time has the potential to be exciting and freeing, the question of 'Who am I?' may paralyze students who have hit a roadblock such as academic probation, major reselection, or personal crisis.

How can we as advisors, coaches, or student support professionals integrate identity development into our philosophies of practice to help students bounce back from periods of significant academic or personal difficulty? Join us for a discussion about the practical applications of identity theory when supporting and re-empowering academically vulnerable students.
