Please Won't You Be My Advisor?
Please join this session to 'ride along through the neighborhood' with Mr. Rogers, the writer, producer, and actor in the infamous public television show Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. We will examine Mr. Roger's 'just one person' model and its potential influences for specialized and underrecognized populations of students in advising, including refugee students. We will apply Mr. Roger's four 'simple interactions approach,' to our roles, which include the basic interaction strategies of creating connection, inclusion, reciprocity, and opportunity for growth. Finally, we will explore how advisors can maintain balance between professional and personal health in this demanding helping profession. |
