Addressing the Needs of our POC Students
Inclusivity is at the fore of issues facing institutions today. Addressing the unique needs of students of color, speaking to their unique experience and, when necessary bridging gaps, is a priority of mindful advising professionals across the nation. At our predominantly white institution we needed to know where we stood in these efforts. We went directly to the students to learn the unvarnished, sometimes challenging, views students of color had of us. Join us as we share how we approached obtaining feedback, discussing our reality, and working with our campus partners to step forward in a positive direction toward being the best advisors we can. We hope to share knowledge and experience that could assist other advising teams who are embarking on the same journey. |
