Title: Flipped Academic Advising - An Action Research Study
Lead Presenter: JP Villavicencio
Date: October 09, 2021    Time: 9:15 am - 10:15 am
Room: 211, DECC
Abstract: Flipped advising is a relatively new advising approach that is based upon the flipped classroom and the advising as teaching frameworks. This pedagogical approach seeks to invert how and where students are doing their learning. This session will review the flipped advising approach and report on the findings of a concurrent mixed methods action research study that took place during the spring 2020 semester within the Social Work department at a public, comprehensive, four-year university in the upper Midwest. The presenter will outline the study design, discuss the findings, reflect upon the implications of the study, and provide recommendations for practitioners and researchers. Attendees will also be asked to explore how the findings can be applied to their current advising practices.
