Title: What's Love Got to Do With It? Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Sex Assigned at Birth
Lead Presenter: Wendy Schindler
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm
Room: Jr. Ballroom B, DECC
Abstract: For many, the umbrella term LGBTQIA+ immediately conjures thoughts of sexual orientation--who folks are attracted to and who folks love. But the term encompasses so much more. Becoming educated on these topics is important because LGBTQIA+ students are particularly in need of our support. This session will go beyond basic terminology to give participants a deeper understanding of the nuances of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex assigned at birth. We will bridge the theory and practice of working with LGBTQIA+ students where participants engage in reflective exercises, discuss practical applications with other participants, and create a personal guide to enhance their advising practice.
