Abstract:

Certifying Advisors as Helpers: Centralized New Advisor Training in a Decentralized Structure.
The information required for advisors to be successful in their position continues to grow; does that sound familiar? Where does training start, especially in a decentralized advising structure? We addressed this challenge by developing an advisor certification program that champions advisors as educators by providing all advisors the knowledge and development necessary to take their skills from entry level to mastery. This presentation focuses on our mandatory first-year training program for new advisors. With roughly 60 advisors completing the program, and over 50 advisors in progress, we will share feedback and the program development, incorporation into our LMS, integrated mentoring, and implementation of an in-person two semester class. We will end by sharing how everything fits into the larger, optional multi-year certification program. |
