Abstract:
|
Embedding career-related efforts across university departments is critical to engaging students with career advising and resources that support student progress toward career goals early in the student experience. The importance of integrating career responsibilities into different types of advising roles is well established (Gordon, 2006). However, significant cultural and organizational barriers for both advisors and students may exist that limit important career-related growth. Participants will learn how change management, skill building, communication strategies, intradepartmental partnerships, role redesign, complexity studies, and quality monitoring resulted in wider implementation of career resources and concepts including curriculum skills mapping, skills profiles, career tools and other elements. Participants will learn about limiting beliefs that prevent the sharing of career focused responsibilities. Participants will apply the principles to address the complexities of their organizations to better embed career responsibilities across university roles. |
