Abstract:
|
While academic advisors are fiercely committed to promoting academic success for all students, many have never received instruction in evidence-based learning strategies. Join us to learn about a campus-wide initiative to support student learning focused on the Three Ms for Effective Learning - mindset, metacognition, and memory - concepts distilled from decades of research in cognitive science. This initiative has already created transformational change for staff, faculty, and students on our campus.
Attendees will have an in-depth opportunity to learn about empirically supported strategies and tools that they can utilize to promote students' academic success. They will experience several of the recommended learning strategies by personally responding to metacognitive journal prompts and participating in a memory demonstration. Attendees will also learn how about the various ways in which academic advisors at a College of Engineering have woven the Three Ms into distinct components of STEM student success advising. Attendees are sure to leave this pre-conference session with actionable resources to share on their campus with students and colleagues. |
