Abstract:

Bring Your Favorite Work Appropriate Beverage! PD Sips is a monthly professional development (PD) event we offer to the advising staff at our institution to engage in discussions based on selected literature relevant to the featured topic. The idea is to gather virtually/ in-person over a cup of our favorite work friendly beverage (hints the title of our event) to discuss hot topics in advising.
During this session, I will share our PD Sips professional development model and how other institutions can utilize this professional development opportunity to offer advisors a space to engage in meaningful, often fun, and professional discussions relevant to topics within the advising profession while also discussing and addressing the college advising needs of that institution. We will share the successes of hosting this type of PD event as well as discuss the challenges of hosting this type of PD event. The goal of the session is to provide inspiration to other advisors and their institutions on ways in which we can offer events that lead to discovery and exploration in the profession of advising. |
