Lead Presenter: Locksley Knibbs
Date: October 23, 2022    Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Room: A107-109, OCC
Abstract: This pre-conference workshop will examine the big three: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the fourth piece Belongingness and how they fit within the academic advising relationship. This is a highly participatory session with attendees interacting with peers to discuss case studies and share ideas regarding bringing an equity lens into advising from theory to practice. Attendees will be provided with tools to develop academic advising strategies specifically geared towards racially and ethnically diverse student populations, helping students to feel a sense of belonging and that they matter within the learning environment. Participants will learn strategies for how to incorporate and appreciate inclusive advising as they navigate with students from matriculation to graduation. Participant feedback on DEIB will be critical to the goals of this workshop.
