Title: Perennial Campus Powerhouse: Maintaining Excellence Through Transition in Your Peer Mentor Program
Lead Presenter: Maggie Gilchrest
Date: October 23, 2022    Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Room: C123, OCC
Abstract: The great sports programs are always able to maintain excellence, even after losing top talent each year. How are these programs: Clemson football, Duke men's basketball, Uconn women's basketball, able to remain powerhouse programs while continually losing top talent, and what does it look like to use the same mentality for a peer mentor program? This presentation will introduce the concept of creating a 'powerhouse' peer mentoring program that reloads, rather than rebuilds, and continues maintaining its level of excellence after every change in student personnel. When your peer program is predominately responsible for a 90% FTIC rate in a pandemic, you know that excellence never graduates. Join us as we discuss strategies and themes on developing and sustaining the most impactful peers on campus, and workshop policies, procedures, and training ideas that you can implement in your peer mentoring program right away. Build a powerhouse and create a legacy of retention.
