Title: Making it Stick: Applying Adult Learning Theory to Advisor Training
Lead Presenter: Katie Gahagan
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: What happens when nearly half of your advising team leaves in one calendar year? There is a lot of onboarding and training of new advisors! See how one institution used Knowles' (1984) Theory of Andragogy to transform their advisor training. They created an online platform and short one-on-one sessions to provide new advisors with a self-directed approach to learn how to solve real-life advising related problems. This presentation will guide you through the change in the institutions' advisor training approach and offer tips, tricks, and lessons learned for you to bring back to your institution.
